Environment in Italy: An Overview, 2024 Environmental Data Yearbook is a statistically significant and scientifically relevant report produced by the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), in collaboration with regional and autonomous provincial Environmental Protection Agencies, as part of the National System for Environmental Protection (SNPA).

Drawing on more than 300 indicators available in the ISPRA Environmental Indicators Database (https://indicatoriambientali.isprambiente.it), the report provides official information on the state of the environment in Italy. It targets a broad audience, including policymakers, public administrators, technical experts, and citizens. The publication aims to enhance understanding of key environmental phenomena and their interrelations; to assess the effectiveness of current protection strategies in line with regulatory objectives and major national, European, and international programs; and to strengthen institutional responsiveness.

The report covers 39 environmental topics: Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Energy, Transport, Tourism, Industry, Air Quality, Climate, Emissions, Protected Areas, Biodiversity: Status and Threats, Forest Resources, Inland Waters, Marine Coastal and Transitional Waters and Physical State of the Sea, Venice Lagoon, Coastal Areas, Water Resources and Budget, Soil, Land Use and Land Consumption, Georesources, Contaminated Sites, Volcanic Hazard, Seismic Hazard, Landslide Hazard, Subsidence and Sinkhole Hazard, Flood Hazard, Waste, Environment and Economy, Electromagnetic Fields (EMF), Noise, Chemical Substances or Agents, Environmental Assessments, Offshore Infrastructure for Natural Gas Production and Distribution, Environmental Authorizations, Environmental Certification, Environmental Information, and Environmental Education.
