Atlas 2025. Territories in Transformation

The recognition of the value of soil and the protection of natural heritage and landscape are, in fact, at the heart of the recent European regulation for the restoration of nature (Nature Restoration Regulation), but also of the European Green Deal, the European Soil Strategy for 2030, the proposed European directive for soil monitoring and resilience (on which the Council recently reached a provisional agreement with the European Parliament) and the targets set by the United Nations Global Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In this sense, the need to have official and scientifically rigorous data to support the adoption of measures that allow compliance with the new obligations for the restoration of nature, meets the continuous commitment of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) and the National Network System for Environmental Protection (SNPA), which have always been active in the production of tools for monitoring the state of the territory and ecosystems based on the best technologies for territorial analysis and Earth observation, such as those provided by Copernicus
